Does Todd Bentley Exhibit the Mark ?
June 18, 2008
The question I am asking is this: Does Todd Bentley exhibit the Mark ?
No, not the mark of the beast, but the mark of a minister “approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed.”
To answer such a question, we will consider the following quote from Charles Bridges book The Christian Ministry.
The mark of a minister “approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,” is, that he “rightly divides the word of truth.” This implies a full and direct application of the Gospel to the mass of his unconverted hearers, combined with a body of spiritual instruction to the several classes of Christians. His system will be marked by Scriptural symmetry and comprehensiveness. It will embrace the whole revelation of God, in its doctrinal instructions, experimental privileges, and practical results. This revelation is divided into two parts — the Law and the Gospel — essentially distinct from each other; though so intimately connected, that an accurate knowledge of neither can be obtained without the other. (page 222)
If I may say, it has been my observation that Todd Bentley preaches neither Law nor Gospel let alone both in harmony at the “Florida Outpouring”
To conclude, it is my humble assessment that Todd Bentley is not a minister of the Gospel but a false teacher and one who should be called out for his heretical teachings.

Have you seen/heard Justin Peters on Way of the Master Radio? Here is a link:

Justin speaks out on the WoF movement and spoke at my church. He comes recommended by my pastor, Dr. John MacArthur.
Check out the “demo” on his site: http://www.justinpeters.org
God bless you!

I totally agree. Todd Bentley is leading many naive people into mysticism. It is sad to see so many people fooled by him. There are many interesting videos about him here…http://web.mac.com/streetreach/StreetReach/Blog/Entries/2008/6/13_Todd_Bentley_and_the_false_revival.html

Could Todd Bentley be another Jim Jones? In the early stages of his ministry there are striking similarities between Bentley and Jones. In 1955, Jones was prayed for a Latter Rain Pentecostal Conference by O.L. Jaggers who pronounced that he had a very special prophetic calling on his life. Years later when he founded the People’s Temple, Jones used faith healing to draw the masses much in the same way Bentley has in Lakeland. It may be a little premature to say Bentley is treading the same course as Jones, but I think it is a possibility we must be aware of. After all no one ever thought Jones would go to the extent he did by getting 918 people to commit suicide through drinking kool-aid laced with cyanide. Bentley’s claims show that he is very dangerous spiritually as he has placed much emphasis on angels, third heaven experiences, and has claimed experiences where his spirit left his body which is known to New Agers as astral projection. Could Bentley be even more than just a spiritual danger? Could he be leading his followers down the same course that Jim Jones led the People’s Temple in 1978 to the greatest mass cult suicide in history? I am drawing the comparisons and revealing Bentley’s false teachings at http://www.toddbentleyjimjones.blogspot.com

In my understanding of Scripture, signs & wonders follow the Word, not the Word following the signs. Jesus ” taught” then he ” demontstrated ” the miracles of healing & deliverance. The also apostles placed a great emphasis on laying a down a pattern of doctrine. I love signs & wonders of God but I have no place in heart for anything that does not exalt the eternal Word. I do not really much about this revival in Florida, but I do know where I stand. Keep the Word first, & God will move as He wills if we are open. I think some echoes from the past would be worth listening to in the Pentecostal movement again. As a Pentecostal myself, I think we should revisit the writings of Gordon Fee, Donald Gee, & currently Stanley Horton. These guys have guided Pentecostalism thru some rough times theologically. It wouldn’t hurt for us to dive into our reformation roots & drink from the writings of Luther, Calvin, & Edwards. So, there is nothing wrong with revival if it has the Good book as the manual. We need to pray for this ministry if it truly in error.

Something that really comes to my mind is the story of the “noble bereans” in the book of Acts. The Bible said they “searched” the Scriptures in reference to Paul’s teaching. I remember one commentary I read, said they ” investigated ” the Scriptures like lawyers. If we could get people to read & study the Bible, they would not swallow everything hook, line, & sinker. We have to be so careful, doesn’t the Bible say even the “very elect” would be deceived. I love revivals but a revival of what? We need an outpouring, but what kind of outpouring? I pray we have an reformation of the Word & a genuine Holy Ghost outpouring.
