Hello Shane,

I greatly admire Dr. Mohler’s ministry. I agree with most of his article, but one statement he made is not true: “The Roman Catholic Church believes that evangelicals are in spiritual danger for obstinately and disobediently excluding ourselves from submission to its universal claims and its papacy.”

The Catholic Church teaches that one who has faith and trust in Jesus Christ is NEVER in “spiritual danger”. Spiritual danger would exist if one truly believes that the Holy Catholic Church is the true church but refuses to submit (there’s a big difference). Catholic doctrine views non-catholic Christians as being in a state of spiritual poverty not “spiritual danger”. It’s more like someone banishing himself to the basement and existing on bread and water, when the rest of the family is upstairs making merry and feasting on the fatted calf. The Catholic Church offers and promotes the sacraments and sacred tradition, along with the Holy Bible, only because she believes that they were once delivered to the church by Jesus Christ. If Jesus Christ did not give us sacraments and sacred tradition, then Catholicism is ridiculous (but if he did, some Christians are lacking everything that he revealed)
