Jim Wallis promotes his liberal agenda and book at Wheaton College

Date February 28, 2008

Several days ago, to our surprise, we found out that Wheaton College had invited leftist, Pro-Homosexual Evangelical Jim Wallis to speak and promote his new book.

In the interest of our readers, we have collected several links that are very informative regarding Wallis and his recent visit to Wheaton. We take the same position as many that Jim Wallis is very liberal in his political and biblical ideologies. The fact that Wallis was able to promote his political agenda to the students of Wheaton without opposition or real dialogue with students is problematic to say the least.

Wallis and his cohort’s have taken liberalism and the social gospel and resurrected it so as to infect a new generation with a false gospel, a false ideology. As Christians we should be involved in the political process, we should care about issues beyond abortion and homosexuality. However, as true Christians, we must maintain biblical fidelity in our efforts to address these issues. Biblical fidelity is not something we can honor Wallis and many of his friends with. Men like Tony Campolo and Shane Claiborne have joined Wallis in taking the “Sermon on the Mount” (Matthew Chapters 5 to 7) and turning it into a social gospel rather than the biblical Gospel.

Galatians 1:6-9 has something to say about those who turn to another gospel:

6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.

It is our prayer that God will open the eyes and understanding of Jim Wallis and those who support him to the truth found only in God’s Word.

I would urge readers to take note of the leaders who are on the boards of his socialist organizations:
    http://www.sojo.net/index.cfm?action=about_us.staff#board

Glenn Palmberg is one listed there - he is the president of the Evangelical Covenant denomination (or has been, while serving sojo and call to renewal, up until recently when he decided not to run for reelection). I would urge people to look and see if the leadership of their denomination is on these boards.

The Evangelical Covenant is home to MANY who consider themselves conservative and who have been lulled to sleep by the seeker sensitive pablum going on in that denomination. They have also been hoodwinked into not being bereans and not speaking up against leadership because Unity is all important. I had NO idea this stuff was going on, but could tell something was ‘off’– just couldn’t tell what. I read some stuff on Jim Wallis’s blog indicating he was received warmly on his God’s Politics tour by the pastors at the E Cov pastor’s conference in 2005, and how so many repented and put their trust in Jim Wallis’ point of view. (my paraphrase). I was appalled.

Now apparently the heresy is being warmly welcomed at Wheaton. Ah Chicago…it’s their kind of town… I guess.

Used to be Call to Renewal had separated from Sojourners (for political reasons?). Now the site redirects back to Sojourners again. Sojo should be reported for 501c3 violations.
