John Piper’s ETS Message

Date November 21, 2007

The audio and manuscript (and now video) are posted of John Piper’s lecture last night at the Evangelical Theological Society in San Diego.

Opening the session, John Piper says:

. . . the truth of justification has become increasingly embattled, so that the truth as I see in the New Testament is increasingly confused and reduced and contradicted.

Here is John Piper’s closing plea:

For the sake of the undiminished fullness of the glory of Christ and for the sake of the radical sacrificial love that the world needs from us, I plead for your allegiance to a robust, biblical, historic vision of Christ whose obedience is counted as ours through faith alone.

The Future of Justification, John Piper’s latest book on the subject of justification, is worth consideration.

A skeptic could say that if “the New Testament is increasingly confused and reduced and contradicted”, then that is the largely the fault of the wise, highly-educated, and sincere men that were present at that meeting; and not the fault of average Christians who pray, read their bible, and follow Christ.
