Tullian Tchividjian: A Small List of Good Books

Date September 19, 2007

Tullian Tchividjian, Senior Pastor of New City Church recently posted on his blog a ‘Small List of Good Books’

‘that really helped me out as a young Christian’.

No doubt these books really did help Tchividjian in forming his new found faith in Christ. You can read the entire post here.

I do have a concern however, and it is a growing concern that comes up on many sites where leaders are pointing people to resources without any warnings at all. What do I mean; let me try and explain.

Among many of the authors in the ‘Small List of Good Books’ three of interest come to mind.

T.M. Moore, J.I. Packer, Os Guinness, and Chuck Colson. All four of these men signed the document “Evangelical and Catholics Together

So the warning would be, in the case of the above authors, something like this.

There is a wealth of information to gain from these men but be aware of their ecumenical tendencies and the implications of what that means regarding the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

It might be explained like this. Would you tell someone to go into a building because there is some gold there they can have and neglect to tell them that the building is structurally unsound and could cave in at any moment. I think most people, having that kind of knowledge, would share a word of caution before sending someone into that building.

Please share you thoughts and ideas !
