Can one Christianize Eastern religious practices?

From Bryan Flynn at One Truth Ministries we read:
“You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way.”
Over the past few years, I have received hundreds of emails regarding my opposition to Yoga and other mystical practices being used within the body of Christ. The excuses for continuing the practices range from, it makes me feel closer to God, it is just a form of exercise, or my intention is to worship our Lord only. Unfortunately, none of those explanations holds much water when weighed against the Word of God.

If yoga is incompatible with Christianity, because of the fact that the former is an Eastern philosophy, I would like to know what will correct the imbalance of much Christian thought that the body doesn’t matter. We have been persuaded so much, from Cartesian dualism that the soul is the most important thing –that the body can be left behind to decay and rot in our premature old age. Perhaps recent Christian thought on “the body” is in fact Docetist… we only “seem” to be here as a phantasm. Furthermore, if exercise is good for you, (and that is an incontrovertible health fact) … what is the difference between doing a good stretching exercise and yoga? A more godly and responsible approach is to suggest that God can redeem any situation, and yoga can be saved, for the Christian to do. We should put the spirit of fear behind us. We are, after all, living in a post New Testament epoch, not an Old Testament one.
