I picked this up on the web after reading about Jackie Roesse (sp?) being named a preacher at IBC. A friend and I were at IBC Women's Bible Study last year (Fall 07) and had our red flags go up. We discerned a radical feminist attitude there. It was really hard to put our finger on it too. Honestly, we also got into a debate with Jackie on E mail because one of her proteges alluded to the fact that God could be feminine in nature in one of the presentations there. They use a lot of art there to demonstrate. We felt that anything that is not totally clear and puts a question into our minds about the nature of God is definitely not real truth.
We left. The Holy Spirit is very powerful. He spoke to us and told us to leave that Bible study. What is exciting is how God worked to reveal this to us , even when we were least expecting it. We are not BIblical scholars, but we have been in a few Bible studies.

I am so glad to have found your article!

We left IBC last summer, because we felt the Lord was showing us we were not being fed by the sermons from Pastor Andy.

Even though I felt this way, I still felt kinda guilty for leaving, but your article has given me confirmation that we did the right thing.

Thanks

I found this article to be in excellent form. I have been a Believer for 35 years and have been to many different denominational churches, including studying at a Bible College of the same denomination as A.W.Tozer.
Unfortunately what continues to nag me is who decided how church is supposed to be "practiced".
Jesus and His deciples went to Synagogue. The New Testament church was a group of home churches overseen by women and men of the Gospel.
The 20-45 minute sermon by a "certified" preacher, with a prayer or two, a couple of hymns or worship songs format is not taken from Scripture. Church is quickly becoming a corporation with a preacher CEO and a money draining staff, not to mention buildings and costs that are again not scriptural.
I think the home group format seems to be closer to the New Testament church. In smaller groups it is most deffinetly easier to discern, for the Spirit is able to speak in a way we can listen without all the rucous.
I think that we are all so busy playing church as created by Western Civilization that we DON'T take time to practice discernment.

Aliza,

What a pleasure to know that someone was blessed by our efforts here. To God be the glory.

I really enjoyed reading this article. I especially enjoyed the "How are we to judge?" part of the article. I have been struggling to find an response to the "Dont judge me" comment that i hear from many people (professing christians and non-christians alike). You explained this beautifully. May the Lord continue to bless you in your studies of scripture

Holly,

I would like to hear more of your story about IBC some time if you would be open to sharing it.

Where do you now attend?

I left IBC because of the clear evidence that they were becoming a part of the Emergent Conversation movement. I was a member there for 35 years.
