Aint No Separating These Guys — T.D. Jakes and Ed Young, Jr.

Date May 29, 2007

Here you can find one of the most recent examples of cohabitation between Ed Young, Jr. and T.D. Jakes.

T.D. Jakes has just released a new book, ‘Reposition Yourself, Living Life Without Limits and Ed Young, Jr. is giving the book a mighty praise.

“Bishop” Jakes is the quintessential leader with a heart for people in the now and an entrepreneurial vision for the church of tomorrow. Without hesitation I believe that “Bishop” Jakes is one of the best communicators in the world today. His ability to connect with people is God given, and I am personally inspired, encouraged, and challenged each and every time I am in his presence. — ED YOUNG

I must say, Mr. Jakes is entrepreneurial, no question about it. How much of a heart he really has for the people is in serious question. If Jakes had a heart for people, he would share the truth with them at all cost, even if it cost him worldly fame and fortune. Jakes’ vision for the church of tomorrow is this, more products to sell and more people to deceive.

In the name of Gospel truth, please warn others about what is going on in the church today. I am convinced that if religion was not paying big dividends for the likes of Young and Jakes, they would close the doors to their ministries. Lord, we pray, break the delution from the minds of these men that they might rediscover authentic ministry in You and for You, Jesus.

I am reminded of Paul’s words, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. — 1 Cor. 2:1-3

One question sir, if Jakes motivation is what you have alledged, than explain this…….

He has been in ministry for 31 years. He has only been on TV about the last 14. Since he didn’t have any books or tapes for 16 yrs, can you explain what motivated him all of those years… His bio discusses preaching pour with no lights on in his house and no water on either. He came up digging ditches and preachingthe gospel and ministered for years with little or no slaary and has spent more years in small churches than big ones……… I thought you might explain that especially since you seem to know him well enough to know his inner motivation and heart. You do know him, don’t you? Have you at the very least met him? If not, how do you know his heart? I am still trying to figure out my wife and children’s heart and I am married to them!

Oh I said one question but please let me ask two. If you are wrong about what you alledged and he does love people, then what does that make this post….. but slander and salacious propoganda, void of truth and contrary to scripture, bearing false witness and is itself deceiptful?

You have a right to disagree with his theology. But what gives you the binoculars to see into his heart?

    This is an excellent post.
A couple hundred years ago would have had a Oneness Pentecostal labeled a heretic in short order.
In the end, I think Young does not mind compromise for the sake of a few of Jakes’ fans.

Response to the post from David Thomas:

With regards to Jakes ministry for the first 16 years. We are talking about the here and now. Many people like Mr. Jakes start out with a pure heart and it is all about authentic ministry. So, to answer your question about Jakes early years in ministry, I don’t have a clue.

As to the current ministry of ‘Bishop’ T.D. Jakes, I think there is enough fruit in open, plain view to validate the statements I have made. Maybe he has a measure of ‘love’ for the people. The real question is, what drives him to preach what he preaches and peddle the Gospel like he does.

With regards to the question about slander, etc.. and bearing false witness, here is my response. I wish I was wrong and if I am, I will repent. The greater expresion of love it to warn people of the danger they face in following the teaching of a man like Jakes.

Greetings in the name of Jesus, We need to pray often, if not daily, for wisdom and discernment. From what I have read and heard, T.D. Jakes was raised Oneness Pentecostal and has not taught the Trinity in the way of most preachers that I have heard. When questioned directly about it he starts talking about the ” three manifestations of our one God”. Mostly it is Jesus only. He also is very clearly teaching the faith and prosperity movement, deceiving many. Pray for him and the sheep who follow him. In Christ, Carol

  5. David Thomas said:

And by all means while you are praying, do mention that you too Carol and the others of you on here, might benefit from a little prayer also. God forbid that you are wrong about anything!

    To David,

If you read Carol’s comments close enough, the first admonishment is to pray for ourselves. I most definately need to pray for myself and welcome the prayers of those truly serving the King of Kings.

I have not seen a single comment on this post that would give you any reason to think anyone is saying they are without sin or error.

However, as I am sure you are well aware, Jude 1:3 tell us to contend for the faith. When calling out error like that T.D. Jakes teaches, we are in obediance to Jude 1:3.

T.D. Jakes doctrine on the Trinity, is wrong. If you are alligned with Jakes on this issue then you are wrong as well. The bible says we are to study to show ourselves approved. If you are walking in that command, then I commend you. Study, pray, and ask God for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. I seek these things every day.

In God’s economy, age, length of ministry, success, etc, do not trump being faithful to the truth found in God’s Word.

May the Lord bless you as you turn to Him daily as your source of strengh, wisdom, and knowledge.

hi, i was just wondering- how many lives have you influenced for God? i was at Hillsong conference this year and was blessed to have had the opportunity to hear TD Jakes speak. i tell you, after hearing what God had to say through him i will never be the same. now i know that everyone has different views and opinions on doctrine. but why bash a man who is doing phenomenial things for the kingdom?
i reakon he is blessed because he was faithful with the few that he had.
he must be doing something right if Pastors like Brian Houston and Ed Young and Jentezen Franklin are asking him to speak at their conferences. how many have you been asked to speak at on that scale?
i only hope that God will use me to influence and empower people the way that God has used TD Jakes.

just wondering… How much did Jesus charge for his sermon on the mount?

  10. Jay said:

This is in answer to Liz:

I would caution you about using this measure: “How many lives have you influenced for God?”. I personally know several, and doubtless there are a lot more, men who are evil, abusive, at least one that beat his wife regularly, all of which men can count many people that they have influenced for God. This is not second hand information - I have either heard it from the man’s own mouth, or watched it in his life by direct exposure over a period of years (thinking of two egregious cases in particular).

At one point I asked an intelligent young man, a new medical doctor, why he continued supporting the ministry of one of these evil men. He admitted the abuses, the destruction of the lives of Christians, the cult practices, etc - and then he said “I just see that God keeps using this man.” Think on the implications of that. This medical doctor saw that without a doubt the man he was supporting was evil, and actively worked to destroy others, and this young medical doctor justified it all because the man he supported was used by God to influence people.

What this proves is that God can use anybody or anything. Jesus himself said, I think it was when he made his triumphal entry into Jerusalem and I think it was the Pharisees that told Jesus to tell the people to stop calling out his praises, and Jesus said if he did, the very stones would cry out praising him.

Jesus could use rocks if he wanted to - he said so. Or he could use Balaam’s donkey. Or he could use very evil men, whose lives we must still measure against the yardstick given us in the holy scriptures.

It’s still a very honest and reasonable question, and method, to inquire into the theology and practices of any claiming the name of Christ, all the more so someone who has voluntarily entered the public arena like T. D. Jakes. If there are theological problems, or heresies, or whatever inconsistencies they may be - those don’t go away because the person has a high head count of people he has influenced. A high head count doesn’t prove you’re a good man, or right with God. Neither does a low head count prove you’re a bad man, or wrong with God.

Think of Noah. He was called a preacher of righteousness in the Bible. God saved him and his family alone out of all humanity. You know how long Noah preached repentance in the face of the coming judgement of mankind? Over 100 years. ONE HUNDRED YEARS. And in that period, how many did he influence for God?

Zero. Nobody listened beyond his own family.

Assuming that a man has received forgiveness and trusted Jesus and is truly a Christian, then the final measure of a man before God is much more about whether he has been obedient to what God has told him to do or not. Results are nice, but not required. Faithfulness is.

I would like to say that out of all the preachers in the world today I am very concerned with T. D. Jakes and have my own personal reservation with Ed Young Jr. With TD Jakes why did he leave his church in Maryland? This is where he supposedly had a shelter for women. Any way I used to work with a young woman who was paid pretty well but would always ask for money. When I asked the woman why she needed money I found out that she had given most of her money to TD Jakes’ church which she is a member. This is just one of several things I found out about TD Jakes church that makes me wonder about his call to lead spiritually. Ed Young AKA CEO of Fellowship Church, a church I used to attend, has stated from his
pulpit that he intends to treat the church as a business, for He is the CEO. It was
a recurring theme with him and his approach to continually ask for money. If he
needs money then why doesn’t he follow Paul’s example and take a second job, at
way I would question his consistent pleas for money. I have many more examples
of what is wrong in theory and practice about his fundamental Christian makeup.
I am sure they have a ready reply for these examples as well as a reply
for a sundry of other questions and concerns raised by their “Christian walk.”
There should be a book written titled Today’s Church Leadership Under a Microscope, a no holds barred investigative piece that interviews former church
    members from both churchs.

  12. Kevin said:

The problem with interviewing people that are former members, is they usually have an axe to grind. I have attended Fellowship Church for 9 years and have never heard Ed refer to the church as a business. I have listened carefully to his messages every weekend that I am in attendance and I have not found one that does not line up with scripture. Yes, the church has its faults, but it is run by people.

Also, be careful judging peoples “Christian walk”. Something about a plank comes to mind.

I dont know about Ed Young but I really loved TD jakes Preaching Until now that I have learnt that we dont believe in the Same GOD that I believe.Am refering to the Trinity, for any one to preach that the Trinity is God in 3 manifestations is ridiculous.God is one,Jesus said over and over to His Disciples that If you have seen me You have seen the Father,Infact the very reason that Jesus was crucified is because HE claimed to be GOD.The pharisees and teachers of the Law understood very well what Jesus was saying and thats why they accused Him of Blasphemy.Remember when He forgives the SINS of the paralised Man and the pharisees are angered for they knew that only GOD can forgive sins,And they asked him you being a man who gives you Authority to forgive sins? For anyone to read the new Testament and not conclude that JESUS is God is like a man looking up in broad daylight and claiming he cant see the Skies, how blind can one be! God the Father,God the Holyspirit and God the Son are one.not two,not three entities but ONE.
